In Castles of Mad King Ludwig, you will compete to design the most impressive, eccentric, and point-scoring palace imaginable, one oddly-shaped room at a time.
In this acclaimed tile-laying game, each player begins with a humble foyer and builds out from there, choosing from a rotating selection of rooms to add to their growing castle. Dining halls, sleep chambers, utility rooms, even underground swan ponds, each room brings points based on its size, type, and placement. Completing a room by connecting all its entrances brings unique rewards that can shift the course of the game.
But Castles of Mad King Ludwig isn’t just about building. It’s also about pricing. Each round, one player becomes the Master Builder. That player sets the prices for all available rooms, hoping to tempt others while planning to grab a deal themselves. Every coin spent by opponents goes straight into the Master Builder’s pocket, which means every pricing decision is a strategic gamble.
No two games are alike. The King’s changing demands ensure that different rooms and strategies will be more valuable in each session. Endgame bonuses are awarded for meeting these goals, building popular rooms, and smart planning throughout the game.
After all rounds are complete, the player with the most castle points is declared the winner, and the King’s new favorite contractor.
