Auto-passing / "pre-emptive passing" happens in Saint Petersburg, so it's totally doable on BGA.
I've upvoted this suggestion, as I think it would be a useful feature.
However, the passing should only /take effect/ on the player's next turn, but should not be disclosed to other players /until/ that next turn happens.
Also, the "pre-emptive pass" should be cancellable at any time prior to that next turn.

I agree with bananasplay's comments.
I also noticed in a turn-based game today that you are required to "confirm pass" if you get priority but have nothing at all to do (no cards in hand to sell patents, nothing to activate or buy). Seems like that could also be done automatically for streamlining. This was in the final generation, not sure if that made any difference.

agreed, being able to "pre-move" passing your turn would help a lot on speeding up a turn-base table. a few other game does that already and it helps a lot

Came to make the same suggestion, upvoting.
At least something in the options--maybe similar to how Isle of Cats on BGA does it. Great implementation so far.

I agree, it's a bit pointless having to play another turn when you already know you just want to pass. This takes up time and slows the game down resulting in worse overall experience.
A more complex version would be to prompt this option only when it is likely to be used, ie when a player has less money than the play cost of their cheapest card or the standard projects.

What I would want instead, and I think what most people are asking for, is a checkbox that just says "pass when it comes to me". Importantly, this would be something you could check even if you've already done two actions. Online poker sites have something like this where you can just fold your hand when the action comes to you.
It would drastically speed up games, especially turn based.

This is a great suggestion. As bananasplay pointed out, the BGA implementation of Saint Petersburg has a great implementation of this feature: a button that toggles auto-pass on and off.

What's the thinking behind limiting this to being triggered only during one's second action?
Fully half of the usage case for an advanced pass is to trigger it after one has taken two actions on a turn but intends to formally pass on one's next turn...

Another related comment... If I Advanced Pass, and then come back to the table I may realize that I made a mistake. It would be nice to be able to "undo" the advance pass, i.e. cancel my intention to pass without otherwise affecting my last turn. I.e. this "undo" wouldn't mean trying to take a second action (assuming I only took one before "Advanced Pass", but simply clear the flag that indicates I want to pass on my next turn.

Suggestion make it a button/checkbox that always appears even when it isn't a players turn. So it's just always available in the top action-bar.
e.g. currently it is not my turn, so when I view the game, I see "<other player> makes their choices". I suggest adding a button that reads "Pass for this generation on my next turn.", or "Do Not pass on my next turn". If the "advanced pass flag" is set, it would show the second prompt, and if it is not set, it would show the first prompt, and each button would toggle the flag respectively.
And if confirmation is off I am not sure where it suppose to go ....

To add to what BitBlitz said, yes I also agree that there should be a way to undo / deactivate the 'advanced pass', if it has not come around to your turn yet. I know in Wingspan you can set some automatic settings to occur with the pink passive effect cards, but can turned off if desired. It could perhaps be implemented similar to that?

It'd be nice to have a "pass until game end" option.
Sometimes you get near the end of a game and realise there's nothing you can do to win or catch the other players. In this situation I'd like to have an automatic pass until the end of the game.

Agreed on having a "Pass for Generation" button available when it is not your turn to speed up turn based games. There are plenty of times where my last turn of a generation I do both actions so Advanced Pass isn't an option, but I know I am done for the generation, but I have to wait until it is my turn next just to hit pass. St. Petersburg is a good example of having a pass button available not on your turn (and being able to cancel the pass also).

On the next update there will be the following change:
- Advanced Pass won't be offered as action to active player
- Instead it will be offered as action to inactive players (who did not pass yet)
- Other players won't know about this until the player auto-passes on next turn

It does /not/ look good. The pre-emptive pass is supposed to take effect on the player's next turn, and as such, it should be cancel-able at any time prior to that turn, as noted in the second comment on this submission.
