Some ambiguity in the current display layout, particularly on the doom token which by resting halfway between the Hours card and the first Arcana on the 1 and 2 spots can be misread as "not in play yet".

I agree. By having the trackers outside of the card, when your pair of fates cannot be played anywhere and you have to play it on The Hours card then it effectively covers up the trackers under the III symbol.
