It seems you misunderstood the rules. After you reach the Castle row, your explorer is immediately removed from the board and you stop playing regular turns. All you can do in your "special" turns is to discard tiles from the board. As far as I know, the Epic Elixir doesn't prevent that.
You used the Epic Elixir in your last regular turn, then got a special turn right after it.
