It would be a big help to know who picked what role. During the turn, the active player who chose his role should be highlighted on the right side, where all the participants are listed.

In the real game, a player chooses his role by taking an exposed role card, as well as any doubloons present on the card. (cf boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=14445)
I ask that the original concept of the game be respected: the player must take one of the available role cards, then the name of the chosen role is displayed in his panel.
As for the Tokaido game, placing the pointer on a role name in the panel displays the card and explanations.

Yes, please. We would really like to be able to see at a glance which player has selected which role in the ongoing governorship. It seems like at least once a game I find myself scrolling back, back, back through the game log of who shipped what just so I can see who chose Captain.

OP's suggestion has been implemented (except for 2p games where multiple roles are selected, not just one)
