In German there are so called Umlauts, of course they don't appear in an English game but they are pretty frequent in everyday words. For example: Käse (cheese)

I check the words in the word checker on top. I use the free German Dictionary with more words.

If I type in 'Käse' in the word checker it throws an BGA corruption error something, because Umlauts are not supported.
If I type in 'Kaese', it says the word is not in the dictionary. But this would be the official way to write it in crossword puzzles.

This behavior is based on Scrabble's diacritic rule (and a norm in other spelling word games as well):
If a certain diacritic tile doesn't exist, just ignore the diacritic mark.
For example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrabble_letter_distributions
Unfortunately, only regular Latin alphabets exist in this game.

Yes. To elaborate:
ä=a
ö=o
ü=u
ß=ss
ß is not B but SS, because ß cannot be replaced to B.
