I play on BGA very frequently with a real life friend (NecioJoe), and we both are paid premium members. Green is my first choice of colors, so I have set my preferences to indicate that. He knows that green is my preference, and he has set his preferences so that green is not in his list at all. Quite frequently when we join a game, he is assigned green and I get some other color which isn't in my list of preferred colors.
Sometimes I get green, sometimes he gets green - even on different instances of the same game.

As I said, he specifically left green off his list so that he wouldn't get it instead of me.

The colors of Greengal, Ekkir, Meeplelowda have been chosen according to their preferences.
Greengal = green
Ekkir = blue
Meeplelowda = brown?!? (my choices both now and at the time this game: 2nd black, 4th red)
Heck it's a 2-player game, how hard is it to grant me my color, which were not present at all in the other player preferences!
The first line of the log states "The colors of Jest Phulin have been chosen according to their preferences." However, my preferred color is green, and I was assigned blue (my third preference). Green was assigned to a non-premium member, and the other premium member at the table apparently does not have their preferences set to colors supported in Deus.
Catan's developers said they confirmed the bug, but it is not Catan-specific, and they marked that bug a duplicate of this one. Please see en.boardgamearena.com/bug?id=69630 for multiple reports from people experiencing this.
- Selecting "Red", "Blue" or "Green" will match a wider range of colours as offered by game implementations
(And specifically, "Blue" will match much more closely to Catan's blue)
- We assign preferred colours to players first to the table's host, and then in a random order (previously, we assigned to the host, and then to players in a fixed order)
