We wanted me to play white, and him to play black, receiving handicap stones. Twice, he set up a game with handicap stones, and I joined. But instead of him, I was assigned black and received handicap stones. Then, I set up a game with handicap stones and he joined. Indeed, this time he got to play black. Apparently, the creator of the board will play black. (If it's actually random who plays black, that's not better :-))

The creator of the board should be able to choose between "I play black and receive handicap stones" and "my opponent plays black and receives handicap stones".
The best way is probably to allow the creator of the board to choose between color, regardless of handicap/komi settings: "I play white", "I play black" or "random".
There should at least be an indication of who will play black.

It doesn't matter much, but when I wrote "Apparently, the creator of the board will play black", I apparently meant the opposite.

I see the information in the rules summery page, now. I still think it would be nice to have this information at the table, for example "Komi and handicaps: (Board admin plays white)" instead of "Komi and handicaps:".

Similarly, I would like if what exactly "Normal komi" and "Big komi" mean were visible directly at the table, though I can see the text "Normal komi (4 points for 19x19 and 5 points for 9x9, 13x13)" instead "Normal komi" would be too long. I suppose it isn't possible to display this information dynamically, depending on the grid size?

I agree with the above, it would be very nice to have this information on the game creation page. (As well as an option to choose who gets the komi.)

It gets especially confusing if you just played a game and clicked "play rematch" as then it changes who is the "owner" of the game.
