AH! It's not a programming bug, it's a problem with the rules as written, which are confusing for new players.

In the original rulebook, this information is not clear at first either, but in an example, it says "One of the symbols must be on the newly placed Shrub tile and the other on an adjacent Shrub tile."

The current rules on BGA say, "This new tile will then be filled with player cubes. For each player, those cubes show how many adjacent tiles can combine with the new tile to match the player's secret card. If the new tile does not match either half of a player's secret card, 0 cubes will be placed for that player."

They should instead read something like, "This new tile will then be filled with player cubes. For each player, if the new tile matches one half of the player's secret card, then cubes of their color will be placed to show how many adjacent tiles match the other half of their secret card. If the new tile does not match either half of a player's secret card, 0 cubes will be placed for that player."

Again, not a bug. You just misunderstood the rules as only 1 cube is placed per match.
Spade Purple / Spade Purple does not place 2 cubes for Spade / Spade, Purple / Purple, or Spade / Purple.

This has just happened to me, the game definitely did not correctly register a ‘Magic tile’.
Game #510465496 Move #31.

A Pink-Diamond was played, next to a Pink-Club, a Pink-Heart, a Yellow-Club, and a Pink-Diamond. The game added 3 cubes.

My guess was Pink-Pink:
Cube 1: The played pink with the pink of Pink-Club
Cube 2: The played pink with the pink of Pink-Heart
Cube 3: The played pink with the pink of Pink-Diamond

With 3 cubes displayed, this is the only possible solution, but it was determined to be incorrect. The actual answer was Pink-Diamond, but in order for that to have been correct there should have been 4 cubes:

Cube 1: The played diamond with the pink of Pink-Club
Cube 2: The played diamond with the pink of Pink-Heart
Cube 3: The played diamond with the pink of Pink-Diamond
Cube 4: The played pink with the diamond of Pink-Diamond

I’ve been going over this and the rules of the game for ages now trying to figure this out and where I went wrong, but the only answer I can come up with is that BGA played this move incorrectly.

Incorrect. Pink/Diamond - Pink/Diamond does not add 2 cubes. Check the rulebook again.

So it means the rules applied on BGA are not the exact ones of the official rules ?

This is what is written in the short rules on BGA, below the game :
"NB: It's based on tiles, not symbols. This means that 2 heart-pink tiles side-by-side will still only mean 1 match with a heart-pink card."
So no magic cards as described as in the strategy guide, refered by Bananimus Prime ?

Well I understand now how it is applied on BGA, but on this strategic guide (is it official ?), you can see the same situation we are describing, and it is clearly said that clues are counted like we are expecting it, in the Magic tiles section. Which is why they are called magic. So maybe it isn't an official guide and the person who have written it has misunderstood too ?
Or BGA applied a different rule and I will follow it now, as it is where I'm playing ;0)

If you are not sure about the rules, please ask game forum or BGG, instead necroposting closed reports.
FYI, the publisher confirmed the BGA implementation is working as intended.
