I think it feels more natural to click on the card you want to keep than the one you want to discard.

Regarding the steps I agree that it's maybe more natural selecting the card you'll keep but I wanted to be respectful with the game designer and the rules, they clearly indicate that first you discard a card and then you decide what to do with the other one.
