Actually the initial design was hover to enlarge.
However, then it covered all nearby cards, so it was rejected.
Currently you can hover over cards to check their tooltips.
About images, well, I can work with only what I have.

I agree, I would love to see the cards easier. Maybe the source of your cards can be lightened. I understand you were given these, but whoever gave them to you should try to improve the quality.

Or increase size? For a game with cards, and only a couple on the screen at a time, I feel like they are quite small.
