Both one of my friends and I, on our second time bidding in a round, accidentally bid 6 more when we wanted to bid 6 total. Is there something you could do to make it more obvious?

My proposed enhancement that comes to mind first is that the coins that you've already bid could stay "in your hand" but disabled/selected till the bidding is done? Or perhaps they just show as "unavailable" but the space they were in remains empty rather than they are replaced with other coins "slid over".
