NekonyancerIn *Sir Ocelot's Cave,* players will take turns placing tools around the perimeter of a cave to harvest precious gems. Each player will also get one companion that they can place at critical points in the cave. After 16 turns, the game ends, and [green]whoever has the most points wins![/green]2maintitlebar_content

NekonyancerBGA randomly selected us as the first player, so let's get started! In the top-right corner of the board, you'll find our [red]*companion*[/red] (the black token) and [red]*three stacks of tools.*[/red] Our opponent, Sir Ocelot, has his own [blue]*companion and tools*[/blue] in the bottom-right corner.3my-reserve

NekonyancerEach stack contains five copies of the same token. Each token can be used as one of two different tools. For example, all 5 of our *A* tokens can be used as either a *compass* or a *lamp.* [img]https://snipboard.io/BDCSZ9.jpg[/img]4tile-113-front

NekonyancerOn our turn, we must select one of our tokens, decide what tool to use it as, and place it around the perimeter of the cave. Let's try it! *1.* Select the *A stack.* Two options should have appeared under it: compass or lamp. *2.* Select the *left one* (compass). *3.* Place the compass [red]*here,*[/red] in the top-left corner of the cave.615_12

Nekonyancer[green]Before we take our next turn, I'll explain how the tools work![/green] Any gems that are in the same row as a tool are *"seen"* by that tool. At the end of our turn, we'll collect any gems that are seen by 3 different tools from 3 different directions!111_8

NekonyancerFor instance, the compass that we placed on our first turn *"sees"* all of [red]*these gems*[/red]...2tile-104-front

Nekonyancer... and the lamp that our opponent placed *"sees"* all of [blue]*these!*[/blue]3tile-104-front

NekonyancerSince all the gems in *[blue]this row[/blue]* are already seen by two different tools, we can collect one by placing the missing third tool: a *pickaxe!*5tile-104-front

NekonyancerTime to get our *companion* into the game. Instead of placing a tool, we can spend our turn placing it in the [blue]blue area[/blue] of the cave! *Click on it!* If you clicked, BGA should have [green]highlighted[/green] all the valid placements: • Empty spaces. • Spaces with 1-point gems.2tile-79-front

NekonyancerThe 1-point gem we acquired went into a different part of our inventory though. It's a special kind of gem called a [red]*celestite.*[/red] When we collect a complete set of three different celestites, we can take an *amethyst* from a secret bag. This amethyst could be worth as little as *1* point or as many as *9!* Some amethysts grant points depending on specific conditions at the end of the game!2feather-counter-11941354

NekonyancerCollecting sets of Celestites isn't the only way to acquire amethysts! We can also collect [red]*geodes.*[/red] Geodes aren't worth any points by themselves, but each one yields one amethyst!3tuto_pointer_tile-89-front

NekonyancerOur opponent placed another [red]*pickaxe*[/red] to collect another 5-pointer from [green]*here,*[/green] but I think they should have considered their move a little more carefully. [blue]They just set us up for a great move! Do you see it?[/blue]111_8

NekonyancerOur opponent placed their own companion on the board. From now on, we need to be extra careful about placing tools. [red]I'll show you what happens when we aren't.[/red] *1.* Select *Stack A.* *2.* Select a *compass.* *3.* Place it [red]*here,*[/red] in the bottom-right corner of the [blue]blue area.[/blue]114_11

NekonyancerAt first, everything seems okay, right? We collected a [green]*3-point gem.*[/green]1tile-114-front

NekonyancerHowever, [green]*these two gems*[/green] were already seen by [blue]*1 tool*[/blue] and our opponent's companion, who doesn't work for us. The compass we just placed provided the third tool! [blue]Watch what happens on our opponent's turn![/blue]2tuto_pointer_tile-98-front

NekonyancerOur opponent placed a [red]*tool*[/red] in a completely unrelated part of the board. At the end of their turn, they extracted [green]*every gem*[/green] that was seen by 3 different tools - including the ones that we accidentally set up for them!17_8

NekonyancerThere's just one more thing I have to explain: *moving our companion.* When we placed it on the board for the first time, it used up our turn, and we had to place it in the [blue]blue area.[/blue] We can move it as an extra action on any of our turns, just before we play a tool.2tile-79-front

Nekonyancer*Here's the catch:* if our companion is in the [blue]blue area,[/blue] it must move to the [green]green area.[/green] If it's in the [green]green area,[/green] it must move to the [red]red area.[/red] It can never move to another space in the same area. That means it can only move a [red]maximum of two times per game[/red] (blue-->green, green-->red).3tile-79-front
